Аннотация: NiFe2O4 nanoparticles with average size of 17 ± 2 nm (saturation magnetization 32 emu/g, coercive force 112 Oe) have been synthesized by the joint alkaline precipitation of nickel(II) and iron(II) ions followed by oxidation with atmospheric oxygen. It has been found that, in addition to the ferrospinel phase (<i>a</i> = 8.329 ± 0.001 Å), the product contains 9.6 wt % of α-Fe2O3. The presence of this impurity does not hinder the effective magnetic separation of the material from the reaction medium. The influence of sacrificial agents (Sodium citrate, carbonate, bicarbonate, and hydrogen peroxide) on the photocatalytic degradation of indigo carmine in the presence of NiFe2O4 under UVA irradiation (λ = 340 nm) has been systematically investigated for the first time. It has been demonstrated that only addition of hydrogen peroxide at concentration of 0.01 mol/L leads to a significant enhancement of the process (up to 70% degradation within 60 min). Scavenging experiments with reactive oxygen species (ROS) revealed that singlet oxygen plays a major role in the oxidation of Indigo Carmine. These findings extend the current understanding of photocatalytic mechanism on ferrospinels and confirm the potential of NiFe2O4 for application in wastewater treatment.
